Scarring dogs for life

Dogs consume my life. There’s one staring at me from across the room. He’s been fed, watered, and pottied. I’m pretty sure he just finds me attractive. It’s ok, many do.

Recently had the great pleasure of shooting portraits for Pooches Dog Daycare. Brightly colored series of clients’ dogs who had won a recent drawing. Good times and a fun group of people to work with. Towards the end of the sessions we finished with some portraits of the owners and by happenstance got to to take what’s become one of my favorite photos I’ve had the pleasure of taking.

Sophie is a rescue dog, found injured and was being nursed back to health by a local vet. This day in particular she was staying at Pooches where she could get some rest and be watched over while mom was at work. Finishing a little earlier than expected there was plenty of time to squeeze in a quick portrait of Miss Sophie. Mind you Sophie is quite shy and 5 lights that a actually larger than her weren’t her idea of fun, so we only took a few frames. Fortunately I walked away with one that really showed her vulnerability and just really grabbed me.

If you consider adding a dog to your family consider one of the MANY rescue groups as well as your local animal shelter. This weekend I have the esteemed honor of photographing the Oklahoma Alliance for Animal’s Woofstock event. There will be many many dogs available for adoption of all breeds and ages. A great place to adopt or just learn more about what kind of dog might be right for you.
